Description

This workshop encourages increased awareness on the current substance use trends among youth in the Country as well as specifically in the State of New Jersey. The workshop will place emphasis on the importance of early detection of youth at risk and proactive actions to reduce substance use in this population. The workshop highlights the benefits of utilizing the Nurtured Heart Approach ® to promote prevention, compliment treatment efforts and enhance sustained recovery from substances.

Objectives

Youth Drug Trends
Recognize the current drug trends, including prescription drugs and marijuana trends, and risks associated with use of these substances among youth and young adults.
Impact of Perception of Risk
Explain the connection between perceived risk and youth substance use trends.
Nurtured Heart Approach & Inner Wealth.
Define the three stands of Nurtured Heart Approach ® as they relate to the development of Inner Wealth ™.
Nurtured Heart Approach & Relationships
Apply the core methodologies of the Nurtured Heart Approach ® to establish interpersonal relationships promoting both prevention, treatment and sustained recovery from addiction.

Ms Crystal Wytenus MA, LPC, LCADC, ACS
on behalf of Rutgers Graduate School of Applied & Professional Psychology (GSAPP)

Crystal Wytenus has her Master’s degrees in both Psychology and Counseling as well as being dual licensed as a Licensed Professional Counselor and Licensed Alcohol and Drug Counselor in the State of New Jersey. She is also a Nurtured Heart Approach ® Advanced Trainer. She has worked in residential programs, partial care programs, in home therapy, outpatient, crisis outreach, and inpatient programs. Crystal has worked with both adults and children with a variety of challenges including mental health, behavioral, developmental and substance abuse issues. Over her career she has provided both direct clinical care as well as clinical and administrative oversight. She currently holds the position of Director of Care Management at Bergen's Promise, which is the Care Management Organization (CMO) of Bergen County. Bergen's Promise currently provides care management services to individuals ages 5‐21 with behavioral, mental health, developmental, and substance use challenges. Crystal has presented around the state of New Jersey on substance use trends and the utilization of the wraparound model of care and the Nurtured Heart Approach ® to assist both professionals and community members in promoting appropriate prevention, treatment and recovery services for youth.
