This short CEU course provides HIV prevalence data among populations within the United States, and explores rate differences in acquiring, screening, and treating HIV infections between racial / ethic groups, sexual orientation groups, and groups of varying gender identities. In addition, the steps that the CDC is taking to bring awareness and knowledge about HIV and HIV prevention interventions are reviewed.

On completion of this course, the learner will be able to:
1. Explain which populations within the United States bear the greatest burden of HIV infection.

2. Investigate the method that Latino men and women are most likely to be infected with HIV.

3. Describe the 2-step data collection method and explain why nurses should be mindful of collecting patient information in this way.
