Description

Topic: Paraneoplastic Syndromes - Pieces of the Puzzle
Paraneoplastic syndromes are often the clues that lead us to a cancer diagnosis in the first place. Many times, secondary effects of the tumor can be more dangerous to the patient than the tumor itself. In this presentation, we will discuss important paraneoplastic syndromes, some common and some uncommon. Special emphasis will be placed on the treatment of these conditions, as it relates to the treatment of the neoplasm itself.

Objectives

Participants will learn the most common paraneoplastic syndromes identified in veterinary medicine.
Participants will become familiar with the methods that can be used to diagnose an inciting tumor, after discovery of its associated paraneoplastic syndrome.
Participants will learn the possible effects of individual paraneoplastic syndromes on the body, as well the effects of the tumor itself.
