Topic: Customized Solutions for Supportive Therapy in Oncology Patients – Case Overviews
This course is a review of Best Pet Rx patients undergoing oncology treatment. The case overviews presented will educate technicians about specific, custom-compounded medication options for supportive care aligned to commonly utilized treatment protocols.
Each case overview will:
- Include the chemotherapy treatment protocol selected by the veterinary oncology team
- Identify the side effects from treatment requiring medication therapy prophylactically and/or incidentally
- Review the supportive medications prescribed in conjunction with the treatment protocol
- Explain the compliance and tolerability challenges each patient experienced with their medication regimen
- Describe the custom-compounded medication formulation(s) that solved these challenges and achieved good results


Course Objectives
1. Attendee will become familiar with the AVMA guidelines regarding compounding from bulk substances and the regulatory oversight roles of the FDA and State Boards of Pharmacy.
2. Attendee will recognize when to intervene when the pet owner and/ or the patient are having difficulty adhering to medication schedules due to compliance challenges.
3. Attendee will learn the roles and responsibilities of both the compounding pharmacy and the veterinary prescriber when they collaborate to solve medication compliance challenges.

Brian Morgan, Director/VP Medical Relations at Best Pet Rx, has over 20 years’ experience working in the animal health field. Mr. Morgan began his career in clinical practice, working 10 years as a veterinary technician at Animal Care Center in Mt. Juliet, TN and at Mercy Animal Hospital in New York, NY. He then worked as the Practice Administrator for Mercy Animal Hospital for 2 years, followed by a position as the Director of Medical Services at New York Veterinary Hospital for 1 year. Mr. Morgan has served in his current role as Director/VP Medical Relations at Best Pet Rx since 2012. In this role, he consults with veterinarians and their support teams on medication and compliance challenges they confront treating their patients. He collaborates with these teams, along with pharmacists and chemists, to create solutions to these challenges.
