This session introduces the management of health service resources, population health needs and patient demands.

Objectives

By the end of this session you will be able to:
● Differentiate between health needs and health care needs
● Identify the forces of need, demand and supply in health care
● Describe how to resolve common dilemmas in resource management in the health service

Stefi Barna and Veena Rodrigues

Stefi Barna is a lecturer in public health at the University of East Anglia School of Medicine, Health Policy and Practice.

Veena Rodrigues is a Clinical Senior Lecturer in Public Health at the School of Medicine, Health Policy and Practice, University of East Anglia in Norwich and a Honorary Consultant in Public Health Medicine at NHS Norfolk (Norfolk Primary Care Trust).

She is the theme lead for Epidemiology and Public Health within the UEA MBBS curriculum. Through her work within the medical school which involves areas of teaching/training beyond the realm of Public Health, she has developed an interest in the field of medical/clinical education. She is currently completing a part-time Masters degree in Clinical Education at the University of East Anglia, UK.

Dr Rodrigues is an educational supervisor, Training Location Coordinator for Norfolk, and Great Yarmouth and Waveney Primary Care Trusts, and phase lead for Public Health in the Foundation Years within the Public Health specialty training programme in EoE. She is also the Lead for the East of England Teaching Public Health Network, a multi-professional, multi-disciplinary project funded by the Department of Health, to support teaching a and learning of Public Health and to promote Public Health capacity and capability across the East of England (EoE).
