Description

This session is about keeping yourself healthy and avoiding common hazards related to working as a doctor. This will enable you to protect yourself and your patients from blood borne virus infection and other health problems.

Objectives

By the end of this session you will be able to:
● Identify the importance of managing blood borne virus risk in yourself, colleagues and patients
● Describe how to minimise your risk of acquiring blood borne virus infection
● Recognise how to prevent your own health status from putting patients at risk

Jan Welch -
Professor Jan Welch (MBE FRCP FFFLM FAcadMEd FRCOG (Hon)) is a consultant in sexual health and HIV at King’s College Hospital, London.

In 2000 she led the development of the Haven Camberwell, which was the pilot sexual assault referral centre for London, and subsequently the implementation of two further Havens to cover the remainder of London. She was also Director of Postgraduate Medical Education at King’s College Hospital 1998-2005.

Jan is Director of the South Thames Foundation School, which oversees the training of 1700 doctors in South East England. She is also Professor of Postgraduate Medical Education, King’s College London.

Kevin Holland-Elliott -
Dr. Kevin Holland-Elliott is an independent consultant occupational health physician with rooms in Harley Street and an NHS Practice at King’s College Hospital.

Obadiah Elekima -
Obadiah Elekima is a Specialist Registrar in Occupational Medicine with previous background in Public Health (Communicable disease bias), obstetrics and gynaecology.
