Description

Symptom control is vitally important in palliative care. This session aims to provide an overview of how to manage symptoms of debility and also common respiratory and skin symptoms encountered in the palliative care setting. This session was reviewed by Khyati Bakhai and last updated in November 2014.

Objectives

By the end of this session you will be able to:
• Describe the principles of control of non-specific, respiratory, and skin symptoms in the palliative care situation
• Recognise the common respiratory and skin symptoms encountered
• Differentiate between debility and depression
• Manage these symptoms in patients who are terminally ill

Dr Chantal Simon lives in Hampshire and works as a GP in Bournemouth.

Her specialist clinical and research interests are elderly care, palliative care and rehabilitation in the community.

She is the founder, author and ongoing editor of the Oxford Handbook of General Practice and edits the Oxford GP Library series.
