Description

This session will help clinical and non-clinical staff in primary care who have regular contact with parents, children and young people to know how to respond when they have concerns that a child is being abused.

Objectives

By the end of this session you will be able to:
• List who to inform when you are concerned that a child may be being abused
• Describe the process for sharing information about concerns regarding safeguarding a child
• Explain the steps of the child protection process
• Clarify professional roles in child safeguarding
• Describe when to consult other relevant professionals for support

Andrea Goddard Consultant Paediatrician

Dr Andrea Goddard is a consultant paediatrician at St Mary’s Hospital, Paddington and clinical lead for child protection at Imperial College Healthcare NHS Trust.

She is also Honorary Senior Lecturer at the Faculty of Medicine, Imperial College, London and Designated Doctor for Child Protection for NHS Westminster and Lead Paediatrician for the three London Sexual Assault Referral Centres.

Her interest in social paediatrics and child maltreatment is complemented by an interest in adolescent health and child rights.
