Description

This session builds on from Level 1 to help clinical and non-clinical staff who have regular contact with parents, children and young people to recognise signs and behaviours seen in children who are being maltreated. It is important to note that throughout the session, the terms child and children mean anyone younger than 18 years old.

Objectives

By the end of this session you will be able to:
• Identify child maltreatment in its different forms (physical, emotional and sexual abuse, and neglect) including its prevalence and impact
• Define common physical and behavioural signs of child maltreatment
• Identify factors in the child, parents, family and environment that can increase the risk of child maltreatment or neglect
• Recognise some of the barriers to the recognition of child abuse and neglect
• Demonstrate awareness of the PREVENT Strategy; preventing vulnerable young people from becoming involved in radicalisation
