Description

This session uses case studies to help clinical staff who have some degree of contact with children and young people and/or parents/carers to know what are the appropriate responses when they have concerns that a child or young person is being maltreated. It is important to note that the term 'children' means children and young people from birth to their 18th birthday.

Objectives

By the end of this session you will be able to:
• Identify what to do if there are concerns about child maltreatment, using local policies and procedures around who to contact and where to obtain further advice and support
• Define the purpose and guidance around conducting serious case reviews and child death review processes
• Identify where further support is needed, when to take action, and when to refer to managers, supervisors or other relevant professionals, including referral to children's social care
