Description

This session considers three important abnormalities of the endocrine system and how they might present in primary care.

Objectives

By the end of this session you will be able to:
• List the endocrine syndromes that are commonly seen in primary care and those that are rare but important
• Recognise the biochemical abnormalities that may accompany three important endocrine disorders in primary care
• Know the first line investigations in the assessment of a patient with these disorders
• Coordinate the care and monitor the treatment of patients in primary care with these disorders

Berenice Lopez MRCGP MRCP DRCOG FRCPath is a graduate of Nottingham University. She originally trained as a general practioner and was a GP partner in Bristol before switching to a Chemical pathology and Metabolic medicine training programme at North Bristol Trust where she is now a final year Specialist Registrar. On completion of her final year, Berenice will start a Consultant post in Clinical Biochemistry with Metabolic medicine at Harrogate Hospital.

Berenice has an active interest in GP education and has taught on interpreting laboratory tests with BMJ Masterclass. She is also interested in the interface between Laboratory medicine and Primary care.

Berenice is an expert resource for the RCGP. She has contributed to the RCGP EKU programme and has written articles for Pulse and Doctor.
