Description

This session considers the anatomy of the upper airway and larynx.

Objectives

By the end of this session you will be able to:
• Recall the anatomy relevant to maintaining a clear airway and to oral and nasal intubation
• Recognize the structures seen at laryngoscopy
• Describe the basic nerve supply to the airway
• Identify and describe the anatomy relevant to obtaining an emergency surgical airway

Isabeau Walker has been a consultant paediatric anaesthetist at Great Ormond Street Hospital since 1997. Her main interests are anaesthesia for paediatric cardiac surgery, general surgery and reconstructive surgery.
