Description

This session covers the anatomy of the heart, including the pericardium, valves, conduction system and coronary blood supply, as well as the vessels commonly used for central venous or arterial cannulation.

Objectives

By the end of this session you will be able to:
• Describe the functional anatomy of the heart
• Identify the anatomy of coronary circulation
• Describe the anatomy of the great veins of the neck and leg relevant to central venous cannulation
• Identify the anatomy of the main peripheral arteries relating to arterial cannulation

Isabeau Walker has been a consultant paediatric anaesthetist at Great Ormond Street Hospital since 1997. Her main interests are anaesthesia for paediatric cardiac surgery, general surgery and reconstructive surgery.
