Description

This session outlines the essential features and physiological principles of the cardiovascular system that are relevant to anaesthesia.

Objectives

By the end of this session you will be able to:
• Define the normal values for arterial blood pressure, cardiac output, heart rate and stroke volume
• Explain the relationship between blood pressure, cardiac output and vascular resistance
• Identify the events of the cardiac cycle
• Recognize the two main systems that regulate the cardiovascular system
• Have a logical approach to explaining why a patient may be hypotensive
