Description

This session introduces the drugs that are used in a range of emergency situations, including intraoperative hypotension, intraoperative bradycardia, acute bronchospasm, anaphylaxis, malignant hyperthermia and cardiac arrest.

Objectives

By the end of this session you will be able to:
• Identify drugs that are used in emergency situations
• Prepare such drugs for use in an emergency
• Administer the appropriate doses of drugs used in emergencies
• Identify the drugs used in resuscitation protocols

Tom Peck
on behalf of Health Education England

Tom trained at the Royal London Hospital Medical College. During his anaesthetic training he spent additional time working in Paediatric Intensive Care and Neonatal Intensive Care in Bristol and London.

Prior to taking up his current post he worked as a Consultant Anaesthetist in the University of Michigan, USA, providing care for major vascular and transplant surgery.

He is the course director for the FRCA Pt I Basic Sciences Course at Southampton University Hospitals Trust.
