Description

This session covers the causes of electrical hazards in the operating theatre and the methods used to minimize the risks.

Objectives

By the end of this session you will be able to:
• Explain the causes of electric shock from faulty equipment
• Calculate the current that may pass through the body using Ohm's Law
• Explain the importance of electrical safety in theatre

William Boaden

Following initial training as an engineer, William studied medicine and qualified from Kings College, London. He was a Senior Registrar in Anaesthesia in Bristol and the South West and subsequently was appointed a Consultant at the Royal Devon & Exeter Hospital.

His interests include Medical Equipment, Standards and Anaesthesia for Vascular and Orthopaedic Surgery.
