• Describe the triad of anaesthesia
• Explain the term ‘balanced anaesthesia’ and describe how to provide its components
• Describe some of the physiological changes of the stress response to surgery
• Outline options for analgesia after surgery

Paul Sice qualified at St.George’s Hospital Medical School in London. After working in General Medicine and abroad he trained in Anaesthesia in the SW of England. He now works as a Consultant Anaesthetist in Plymouth with special interests in anaesthetic anaphylaxis follow up and medical simulation training.
