Description

This session explains the common causes of intraoperative haemodynamic disturbances and suggests a logical sequence for rapidly identifying problems, along with suggestions for their management.

Objectives

By the end of this session you will be able to:
• Recognize the common causes of intraoperative disturbances to heart rate and blood pressure
• Identify when and how to treat intraoperative hypotension or hypertension, and bradycardia or tachycardia
• Manage atrial fibrillation occurring perioperatively

Richard is a specialist registrar in anaesthesia at Plymouth. He qualified from Birmingham University in 1997. His anaesthetic training has occurred in the Midlands and the South West region with a sabbatical period in New Zealand.

He is particularly interested in acute pain management, thoracic and obstetric anaesthesia.
