Description

This session describes how to identify and treat common problems encountered after the initial set up of mechanical ventilation.

Objectives

By the end of this session you will be able to:
• Identify and manage the common causes of hypotension encountered during mechanical ventilation
• React appropriately to a low minute volume alarm
• Recognize and manage patient-ventilator dyssynchrony

Andrew is Consultant Anaesthetist, Derriford Hospital, Plymouth.

Peter MacNaughton is Clinical Director of Critical Care at Plymouth Hospitals NHS Trust where he has worked as a consultant in Intensive Care Medicine since 1995.

He qualified at Westminster Medical School, University of London and undertook post graduate training in London, Bristol and Sydney.

His research interests are in applied respiratory physiology and ventilatory support.
