Objectives

By the end of this session you will be able to:
• List the common situations requiring urgent attention that may arise in end of life care
• Outline the core steps of assessing an urgent end of life care situation when you have limited information
• Discuss the information and communication needs related to the urgent end of life care situation for other professionals, the patient and family
• Describe the actions that can be taken to pre-plan for, or prevent, urgent situations

Amy Gadoud
on behalf of Health Education England

Amy Gadoud trained in Edinburgh and qualified as a doctor in 2001. Her PhD defended in 2013 at Hull York Medical School was a mixed method study exploring a palliative care approach for people with advanced heart failure: recognition of need, transitions in care and impact on patients, family carers and clinicians.

Amy currently works as a Consultant in Palliative Medicine in Furness, Cumbria and is a Honorary Senior Lecturer at Lancaster University.
