Description

This session describes the mechanisms, management and complications of spinal injuries.

Objectives

By the end of this session you will be able to:
• Describe the basic anatomy and physiology of the spine
• Describe the various types of spinal injuries
• Assess and manage a patient with acute systemic complications following a suspected spinal injury
• Explain the potential systemic complications arising from spinal injuries

Jun Jack Wong
Intensive Care Medicine Registrar, Mersey Deanery

Jack graduated from University of Liverpool in 2008 and subsequently completed core medical training in 2012. He has experience in trauma, adult and paediatric orthopaedics and emergency medicine and he has completed ALS, ATLS, APLS and NLS.

He is now an ST3 trainee in the intensive care medicine programme in Mersey Deanery. He aims to pursue dual CCT in acute internal medicine and intensive care medicine.
