Description

This session describes the abdominal trauma seen in clinical practice the imaging appearances of different organ injury.

Objectives

By the end of this session you will be able to:
• Direct abdominal imaging in the acute trauma setting and in particular, exclude solid organ injury
• Discuss with clinical colleagues the strengths and weakness of different imaging modalities
• Assist in the further management of these patients
• Adequately follow the protocol for computed tomography (CT) depending on the organ injury suspected

Nanda Venkatanarasimha and Bruce Fox

Nanda Venkatanarasimha is Specialist Registrar in Radiology. Nanda trained at Plymouth and Peninsula Deanery and is based at Derriford Hospital, Plymouth.


Bruce Fox is Head of Training in Plymouth and has been heavily involved in the Peninsula R-ITI Academy project both locally and nationally since its inception. He has an interest in medical education and has coordinated the development of the radiology curriculum for the Peninsula Medical School, where he is also Clinical Fellow. He was module editor for Module 3 Gastro-Intestinal in the Radiology Integrated Training Initiative (R-ITI) e-learning project for 4 years, and then an assistant editor to the project.
