Description

This session describes the steps that should be taken during the initial assessment of patients with major burns. Later sections will identify the life threatening complications that may arise in the early period after a burn has occurred.

Objectives

By the end of this session you will be able to:
• Describe the steps taken in an initial assessment of a major burn
• Identify necessary investigations
• Name the potentially life threatening early complications

Jana is a plastic surgery registrar based at the Royal Free Hospital, London.

Her areas of interest include wound healing, scar management, trauma and international healthcare management.

She has participated in volunteer and charity projects in South Africa and Nepal.


Jonathon is a consultant plastic surgeon with North Bristol NHS Trust.

His areas of special interest include burns, scarring and reconstructive surgery.
