Description

This session will look at the pleura, the pleural spaces and common pathologies that affect them. The anatomy and physiology of the pleural cavities will also be reviewed. Emphasis will be placed upon the radiographic appearances of some of the common and important pathologies.

Objectives

By the end of this session you will be able to:
• Describe the anatomy of the pleura and pleural cavities
• Describe the common and important pathologies which affect the pleura and pleural spaces
• Appreciate how the physiology of the pleural cavities affects the imaging appearances of the pathologies

Matthew Scott

Matthew graduated from Newcastle Medical School in 2006 and subsequently specialised in radiology. He is currently an SPR in Radiology in the Northern Deanery.

He has developed an interest in medical education and has worked as an anatomy and clinical skills demonstrator for The University of Newcastle upon Tyne.
