Description

This session describes the sensory and motor nerve supply of the lower limb and foot. This knowledge is essential for the successful performance of lower limb blocks.

Objectives

By the end of this session you will be able to:
• Describe the structure of the lumbosacral plexus
• Describe the common pathways and relationships of the femoral nerve, obturator nerve and sciatic nerve
• Describe the sensory supply to the lower limb and foot
• List common anatomical variations of the lumbosacral plexus and its branches

Ranjit Dulai -
Anaesthetic Research Fellow at Queen Victoria Hospital, East Grinstead
Ranjit is currently an anaesthetic research fellow at the Queen Victoria Hospital NHS Foundation Trust, East Grinstead, UK. She is in her final year as a specialist registrar in anaesthesia in the south east Thames region. She also specialises in ultrasound guided blocks for regional anaesthesia.


Anand M Sardesai -
Consultant Anaesthetist at Addenbrookes Hospital, Cambridge
Anand is a Consultant Anaesthetist at Addenbrooke’s Hospital (Cambridge University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust), Cambridge, UK.
He specialises in regional anaesthesia using techniques involving nerve stimulation and ultrasound. He demonstrates anatomy relevant to anaesthesia in both regional and national courses.
