Description

This session describes how breathing is controlled. We consider, in turn, the physiological components involved in regulating breathing and then build them into an integrated system of control.

Objectives

By the end of this session you will be able to:
• Describe the anatomy of the components which control breathing
• Describe the physiology of these components
• Explain how these components are interrelated
• Describe changes to breathing under differing conditions

Clinical Lead for Organ Donation, Leeds Teaching Hospitals Trust.

Special Interests include difficult airway management, training in awake fibreoptic intubation, the critical care management of patients with spinal cord injury.
