Description

This session reviews which medication groups are recommended for the prevention or treatment of ischaemic heart disease and provides an overview of the most commonly used drug groups.

Objectives

By the end of this session you will be able to:
• List the medications used to reduce the risk of cardiovascular disease
• Describe how the choice of medication in the management of ischaemic heart disease varies with the clinical presentation
• List the major drug groups used in the management of ischaemic heart disease
• Explain the mechanisms of action of the drugs that are used to treat ischaemic heart disease
• Describe the main side-effects or limitations of the drugs that are used to treat ischaemic heart disease

In addition, she has a keen professional interest in the areas of medical education and clinical governance.

Nick Fletcher -
Consultant Cardiothoracic Anaesthetist, St Georges Healthcare NHS Trust, London
Nick Fletcher is a Consultant Cardiothoracic Anaesthetist and Intensivist and Honorary Senior Lecturer at St Georges Healthcare NHS Trust, London. He is also the director of the Cardiovascular Intensive Care Unit.
Nick is a committee member of the Association of Cardiothoracic Anaesthetists (ACTA) and chair of the Cardiac Intensivists in ACTA.
