This session describes the pharmacology and management of anticoagulants.

Objectives

By the end of this session you will be able to:
- Explain how the coagulation system works and the checks that exist to control it
- Describe the different types of anticoagulant drugs and their mechanism of action
- Recognize the roles of the different drugs
- Outline the management of anticoagulation with the different classes of drugs

Hesham Saad -
Clinical Fellow in Anaesthesia, CMFT

Hesham graduated in 1994 from the Faculty of Medicine, Ain Shams University, Cairo, Egypt.

Hesham’s main interests are cardiac and transplant anaesthesia, TOE, FRCA and medical publishing.
