Continuous ECG monitoring is widely used inside and outside the hospital to monitor the electrical activity of the myocardium. This session provides an overview of ECG monitoring and functionality, and examines the issues that might affect and interfere with its measurement.


By the end of this session you will be able to:
• Describe the physiological basis of the ECG signal
• Identify the key features of ECG monitoring
• Recognize the components, basic designs and functionality of ECG monitoring
• Define the factors that might affect or interfere with the accuracy of ECG monitoring
• Describe the various ECG configurations used intra-operatively
