Description

This session describes a range of syringes and infusion pumps, their application in modern anaesthetic practice and the hazards associated with their use.

Objectives

By the end of this session you will be able to:
• Describe the features of automated syringe drivers and infusion pumps
• Describe the various methods of pressure monitoring
• Describe the benefits and limitations of target controlled infusion
• Identify the main hazards when using infusion pumps
• Explain the benefits and difficulty of setting up drug libraries

Consultant Anaesthetist at the Queen Victoria Hospital, East Grinstead.
Dr Diba qualified from Southampton University in 1986 and is co-editor of Ward’s Anaesthetic Equipment. His major areas of interest include anaesthetic equipment, management of the difficult airway and intravenous anaesthesia.
