Description

This session builds on the knowledge gained from part one. It covers how a clinical trial is designed, the various types of clinical trial and how the outcome of a trial is evaluated.

Objectives

By the end of this session you will be able to:
• Describe a case-control trial
• State the difference between a cohort study and a case-control trial
• Identify different types of bias and confounding, and explain how they are avoided
• Explain how a study is analyzed

Consultant Anaesthetist
Jason Walker is a consultant anaesthetist at Ysbyty Gwynedd, Bangor, North Wales. Born in Ireland, he was a graduate of University College Cork, and subsequently trained in the Republic of Ireland and Wales. In his spare time, he is currently pursuing a degree in Maths and Statistics, and is a Fellow of the Royal Statistical Society. He lives on Anglesey with his wife and children. They’re all convinced he’s mad.
