Description

This session covers the aims of the English National Chlamydia Screening Programme (NCSP) and its implementation, including the rationale for the programme and its delivery.

Objectives

By the end of this session you will be able to:
• Name the aims and objectives of the English National Chlamydia Screening Programme (NCSP)
• Identify potential screening clients based on NCSP eligibility criteria
• Explain the rationale behind targeting selected groups
• Describe the delivery of the programme within community-based sexual health providers

Sara Strodtbeck -
Advanced Registered Practitioner

Sara Strodtbeck qualified as a Registered Nurse in 1994, and has worked within the sphere of sexual health for the past 17 years. She is presently employed as an Advanced Registered Practitioner within Abacus Sexual Health Service in Liverpool. Prior to this role, Sara spent 4 years developing and managing the Liverpool Chlamydia Screening Programme (LCSP).

Sara was awarded a North West NHS Innovation Award in 2006 for her work on the introduction of concomitant screening for chlamydia and gonorrhoea within the LCSP. She has presented nationally and internationally on this subject, and gained an MSc with distinction in Public Health following submission of a dissertation researching the prevalence and epidemiology of gonorrhoea in concomitantly screened patients.

Sara is a Faculty of Sexual and Reproductive Healthcare (FSRH) Registered Trainer, and was the second nurse in the country to obtain the Nurse Diploma of the FSRH. She was involved in the development of the Royal College of Nursing’s Sexual Health for Non-experts e-learning package as a subject matter expert. She is a peer reviewer for the Nursing Standard, and has also authored and contributed to articles published within the Sexually Transmitted Infections journal, the British Medical Journal and Primary Health Care journal.
