Description

This session aims to develop a foundational underpinning knowledge surrounding history taking, physical assessment and management of patients presenting with minor head injuries in the out-of-hospital environment. Anatomy and physiology, history taking and physical assessment will be discussed, alongside case studies to contextualise learning.

Objectives

By the end of this session you will be able to:
Implement a thorough and safe assessment of patients presenting with a minor head injury
Recognise red flags in minor head injury presentations to identify patients who may require hospital based clinical investigations
Identify the current evidence-based guidelines in the context of minor head injuries to use in clinical practice

Emily currently works within the primary care setting as a Specialist Paramedic in a GP surgery where she undertakes home visits and clinic work. Alongside this role she also works on a locum basis at urgent care centres and minor injury units. Emily's background includes frontline ambulance service work, community based admission avoidance, lecturing and clinical mentoring.
