Description

This session will describe some of the key differences between assessing and treating children compared with adults.

Later, it will identify the age-specific features including observations and developmental milestones that can contribute to clinical assessments.

Objectives

By the end of this session you will be able to:
• Identify the key physiological differences between children and adults
• Describe how the normal observations for a child change with age
• Explain the importance of developmental milestones
• Explain why it is important to manage children in an age-appropriate manner

Ella is a doctor currently undertaking GP training in the Western Isles.

She received her BM BCh and MA (Med Sci) at the University of Oxford and has since completed the Diploma of Child Health.

She is an associate fellow of the Higher Education Academy and is studying for a PhD in paediatric pharmacology with the University of Nottingham.
