Description

This session will describe how to assess a patient with severe facial trauma, explain how to use the Glasgow Coma score to assess the patient's level of consciousness and describe how to recognise risks to the patient's airway.

Objectives

By the end of this session you will be able to:
• Describe a logical approach to assessment of a patient with severe facial trauma
• Explain how to use the Glasgow Coma score
• Describe the risks to the airway in a patient with severe facial trauma and how to recognise them

Core Surgical Trainee, Royal Devon and Exter Hospital

Mike is a Core Surgical Trainee at the Royal Devon and Exeter Hospital.


Andrew Wilson -
Consultant, Royal Devon and Exter Hospital

Andrew is a consultant plastic, reconstructive and aesthetic surgeon at the Royal Devon and Exeter Hospital.

He trained at Glasgow University and subsequently was awarded an MD from Umeå University, Sweden and UCL after research focusing on peripheral nerve regeneration.

His areas of specialist interest include advanced melanoma, breast reconstruction, head and neck reconstruction and microsurgery.
