Description

This session discusses the initial management of fractures and considers the planning of definitive treatment. We consider the fracture pattern as well as the biomechanical and patient factors which influence these decisions.

Objectives

By the end of this session you will be able to:
• Establish the global principles of fracture management
• Define principles of absolute and relative stability
• Explore the factors influencing treatment of fractures

Christopher Bretherton -
CT1 Orthopaedics, East of England

Graduated from University of Nottingham in 2011, completed foundation training in North Central Thames and is currently a Core Surgical Trainee in the East of England deanery. Pursing a career in orthopaedic surgery.


Andrew McKee -
Consultant Orthopaedic and Trauma Surgeon, Peterborough and Stamford NHS Trust.

Qualified at St Bartholomew’s Hospital in 1997 and gained surgical Membership in 2001. Mr McKee was then appointed to the Cambridge Orthopaedic Rotation in 2003, gaining his FRCS (Tr and Orth) in 2008. Mr McKee went onto specialise in Hand Surgery, being awarded the BSSH Interface Fellowship in Oxford. He is currently a Consultant Trauma and Orthopaedic Surgeon with Special interest in Hand and Upper Limb Surgery at Peterborough and Stamford NHS Trust. He is also a Royal College of Surgeons tutor.
