This session covers the epidemiology, pathophsyiology, radiology and management of infective endocarditis.


By the end of this session you will be able to:
• Recognise the groups of patients at risk of developing infective endocarditis, and the presenting features of local and distant spread
• Differentiate between the available imaging modalities, and be able to advise the appropriate investigation for each circumstance
• Describe the intra- and extracardiac imaging features of infective endocarditis
• List complications that require surgical intervention

Oliver Tann BSc MRCP FRCR -
Consultant in Cardiovascular Imaging

Oliver is a Consultant in Cardiovascular Imaging at Great Ormond Street Hospital, providing cardiovascular MRI, and CT.

Oliver studied medicine and the history of medicine BSc at University College London, graduating in 1998. He practiced general medicine, gaining membership to the Royal College of Physicians in 2002, before starting radiology, and became a fellow of the Royal College of Radiologists in 2006.

Peter Wilde -
Consultant Cardiac Radiologist

I was appointed as a consultant cardiac radiologist in Bristol in 1982 and since then have developed interests in all forms of cardiac imaging and intervention. I am especially involved in echocardiography, MR assessment of adult congenital heart disease and interventional cardiology (including coronary intervention, valvular intervention and thoracic aortic stenting). I am currently President of the British Society of Cardiac Radiology. I also hold a management role as Head of Division of Specialised Services, responsible for cardiac and oncology services.
