This session shows the indications and techniques for foetal echocardiography. The focus is on screening for normality rather than diagnosis for abnormality.


By the end of this session you will be able to:
• Define the basic technique of foetal echocardiography
• Identify basic intracardiac anatomy
• Distinguish the extent of first level and detailed foetal echocardiography
• List the indications for detailed foetal echocardiography
• Discuss different ultrasound modalities available in foetal echocardiography

I was appointed as a consultant cardiac radiologist in Bristol in 1982 and since then have developed interests in all forms of cardiac imaging and intervention. I am especially involved in echocardiography, MR assessment of adult congenital heart disease and interventional cardiology (including coronary intervention, valvular intervention and thoracic aortic stenting). I am currently President of the British Society of Cardiac Radiology. I also hold a management role as Head of Division of Specialised Services, responsible for cardiac and oncology services.
