Description

This session sets out the basic language and pathophysiology of congenital heart disease. The clinical approach in adult congenital heart disease is described using imaging examples, especially magnetic resonance imaging (MRI).

Objectives

By the end of this session you will be able to:
• List five different terminologies used to describe congenital heart disease
• Describe the use of non-invasive techniques in making a diagnosis of congenital heart disease
• Measure physiological parameters to evaluate disease

I was appointed as a consultant cardiac radiologist in Bristol in 1982 and since then have developed interests in all forms of cardiac imaging and intervention. I am especially involved in echocardiography, MR assessment of adult congenital heart disease and interventional cardiology (including coronary intervention, valvular intervention and thoracic aortic stenting). I am currently President of the British Society of Cardiac Radiology. I also hold a management role as Head of Division of Specialised Services, responsible for cardiac and oncology services.
