Description

This session is designed to take you through the radiological diagnosis of lung cancer.

Objectives

By the end of this session you will be able to:
Recognise the high incidence of lung cancer
Identify the main types of lung cancer
Stage lung cancer
Identify lung cancer patterns on chest radiographs (CXRs) and computed tomography (CT)
Identify diagnostic pathways
Describe the role of radiology in the management of lung cancer

Dr Madava Djearaman graduated from Madras University, India in 1993. He trained initially as a General Surgeon, becoming an Associate Fellow and subsequently Fellow of the Royal College of Surgeons in Ireland (AFRCSI, FRCSI 1998). The radiology training took place in the West Midlands. Specialist training in thoracic radiology was at Birmingham Heartlands Hospital and at Papworth Hospital in Cambridge. He has also trained in Cardiac Imaging at Leiden University, the Netherlands and University Hospital, Essen. He was appointed to the Heart of England Foundation Trust in January 2005, with a special interest in Cardiac and Thoracic Radiology. He is promoting radiofrequency ablation of lung tumours and Heartlands Hospital is one of the few UK centres to offer this service.
