Description

This session covers the aetiology, natural history, imaging and treatment options for abdominal aortic aneurysms (AAA), concentrating on endovascular treatment.

Objectives

By the end of this session you will be able to:
Explain what AAA is and how important it is as a health problem
Describe how to diagnose AAA, including the role of screening
Explain when treatment is usually advised and the role of endovascular repair
Present the common problems following endovascular repair

Steve Thomas
Senior Lecturer and Consultant Vascular Radiologist, University of Sheffield

Steve was appointed as Senior Lecturer in 2000. Prior to this he had been undertaking training in Vascular Interventional Radiology as the Endovascular Fellow at the Sheffield Vascular Institute at the Northern General Hospital. At the same time he undertook an MSc at the University of Sheffield in Health Services Research.

Prior to moving to Sheffield in 1997, he was a Senior Registrar undergoing training in Radiology at St Georges Hospital London.
