Description

Prostate cancer is now the most common non-cutaneous tumour diagnosed in men in the UK. This session describes the epidemiology and diagnosis of prostate cancer and a companion session, in Module 4c Genito-Urinary and Adrenal/Staging Prostate Cancer (300-0405), will cover the staging and management of prostate cancer. Both sessions emphasise the contribution of radiological imaging in this common disease.

Objectives

By the end of this session you will be able to:
• Describe the epidemiology and demographics of prostate cancer
• Identify a high-risk group and the role of prostate-specific antigen (PSA) testing
• Explain the role of prostate biopsy and discuss its accuracy
• Give an overview of the pathology of prostate cancer

Trained in Radiology at the Middlesex and University College Hospitals in London. Uday has been Consultant Radiologist at St Georges Hospital and Medical School since December 1995, specialising in Uro-radiology and Interventional Radiology. Uday has also been Module Editor of the 4c Genito-Urinary module of R-ITI.
