This session explains the relevance of imaging to the diagnosis and management of inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) in children. Various modalities are discussed, enabling you to choose appropriate imaging methods and to interpret the images that are produced


By the end of this session you will be able to:
• Explain the process of diagnosing IBD
• Explain the importance of magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) to the diagnosis and management of IBD
• Describe the processes involved in the imaging of patients with IBD
• Assess the advantages and disadvantages of the various imaging modalities that may be used when diagnosing or managing IBD
• Recognise the features of IBD as seen in images produced using different sequences

Consultant Paediatric Radiologist, FRCR, FRCPCH

Brennan has been a consultant paediatric radiologist at Manchester Children’s Hospitals since 1988. He is also an honorary, part-time lecturer in Diagnostic Radiology at the University of Manchester Medical School. He trained at St John’s College, Cambridge, and King’s College Hospital Medical School, London, qualifying in 1978. Brennan did his radiology training at Kingston upon Hull, Leicester and University Hospitals, Gothenburg, Sweden.
