Description

In this session you will learn about congenital abnormalities of the bladder and urethra. You will also learn about some normal anatomical structures in the urethra which can be confused with abnormalities.

Objectives

By the end of this session you will be able to:
• List the more common congenital anomalies affecting both the bladder and urethra
• Recognise the normal anatomical appearance of the male urethra
• Recognise posterior urethral valves on micturating cystography and be aware of the effects on the upper urinary tract

Katharine Halliday MBChB, FRCS, FRCR is a paediatric radiologist at Nottingham University Hospitals, where she also has responsibility for imaging in the Emergency Department. She trained at Manchester Medical School, qualifying in 1984, and trained in Radiology at St. Mary’s Hospital, Paddington, Queen’s Medical Centre, Nottingham and Sheffield Children’s Hospital. Katharine runs the annual Nottingham Symposium on Paediatric Radiology and has a particular interest in imaging for non-accidental injury and paediatric uroradiology.
