Description

This session describes common pathologies and lesions affecting the neonatal brain, concentrating on haemorrhagic and ischaemic lesions in the newborn infant. The role of cranial ultrasonography (CUSS) is discussed in identifying these different pathologies.

Objectives

By the end of this session you will be able to:
• List common cranial pathologies and lesions affecting the premature and term infant
• Recognise different patterns of haemorrhagic and ischaemic lesions affecting the pre-term and term neonate
• Discuss the role of CUSS in imaging the neonatal brain and advise when other imaging modalities are necessary
