This session will discuss the background and general principles in the imaging of children with paediatric brain tumours and review the commonest infratentorial paediatric brain tumours in children.


By the end of this session you will be able to:
• Identify the relevant infratentorial anatomy
• Describe the epidemiology and varied clinical presentations of children with tumours in this region
• Use this information to narrow the differential diagnosis
• Select the most appropriate imaging choices, including computed tomography (CT) and magnetic resonance (MR) techniques
• Recognise the common CT and MR features of paediatric infratentorial brain tumours

Lesley MacPherson

Dr Lesley MacPherson is a Paediatric Radiologist, specialising in Paediatric Neuroradiology, Paediatric ENT imaging and Foetal MR imaging. Following completion of her radiology training in the UK in 1999, she undertook a Paediatric Radiology Fellowship at The Royal Children’s Hospital, Melbourne, Australia and subsequently a Paediatric Neuroradiology Fellowship at The Hospital for Sick Children, Toronto.

Since her return to the UK in September 2001, Dr MacPherson has worked as a consultant Paediatric Radiologist at Birmingham Children’s Hospital, where she is lead for Paediatric Neuroradiology. She provides specialist input to the Regional Cochlear Implant and Foetal MR imaging programmes.
