Description

Degenerative disease of the spine affects most of the population at some point in their lives. The myriad imaging findings and the non-specific symptoms make this a difficult area for clinicians to treat easily. The radiologist’s role is to document the important features that may be responsible for the presenting complaint while appreciating that there is a wide spectrum of imaging appearances which may be asymptomatic in some but symptomatic in others.

Objectives

By the end of this session you will be able to:
• Describe the spectrum of lumbar degenerative disease
• Discuss standardised nomenclature for discal herniations
• Recognise and localise any neural compromise arising from a disc herniation
