This session covers the use of radioisotope tracers for cystography and detection of reflux.


By the end of this session you will be able to:
• Describe the technique of direct radionuclide cystography (DIC)
• Describe the technique of indirect radionuclide cystography (IRC)
• List the differences, advantages and disadvantages of each technique, including micturating cystourethrogram (MCUG)
• Recognise the intermittent nature of vesico-ureteric reflux (VUR)

Former Professor of Paediatric Imaging, Institute of Child Health, London and Honorary Consultant Radiologist, Great Ormond Street Hospital, London

Professor Isky Gordon was a consultant at Great Ormond Street Hospital NHS Trust for 29 years. He is a fellow of the Royal College of Physicians (London) and the Royal College of Radiologists.

Isky has led seminars in Advance Care Planning and the Mental Capacity Act over the past 8 years at GP surgeries, care homes and patient support groups. He, together with David Metz and Maldaba, have created the website (, supported by an expert group of Health Care Professionals.
