This session covers the quantities used to describe image quality and discusses them in the context of radiography. Both film screen systems and digital receptors are considered.


By the end of this session you will be able to:
• Describe the quality of a radiographic image in terms of contrast, spatial resolution, noise and magnification
• Explain how factors that influence radiation dose also influence the quality of the image

Head of Radiation Protection

Chris Taylor has worked in the Department of Medical Physics and Engineering at the Leeds Teaching Hospitals Trust since 1983. He is head of Radiation Protection, a section providing services to several NHS Trusts. Before joining the NHS, he worked in radiation protection for the South of Scotland Electricity Board, the Ministry of Defence and the National Radiological Protection Board.

Chris is a member of the Institute of Physics and Engineering in Medicine (IPEM) and the Society for Radiological Protection (SRP).
