Description

This session looks at a range of clinical situations and explores how some of the barriers to effective information sharing can be overcome.

Objectives

By the end of this session you will be able to:
• Establish how much a patient knows already
• Assess how much information a patient wants to know
• Express yourself clearly and concisely
• Decide when to stop and re-evaluate a situation
• Balance the giving of news to a patient with realistic positive and negative expectations
• Personalise the information that you give to the patient
• Use body language to check you are being understood

The London Deanery and Stephen Ellis

Stephen is currently Lead Thoracic Radiologist at Barts and the London NHS Trust and is based at the London Chest Hospital. In July 2009 he became Module Editor of the 1b Thoracic-Respiratory module of the Radiology Integrated Training Initiative (R-ITI) and is currently Clinical Lead for the R-ITI programme.
